Im gonna make a offer on "73 Gran torino sport with a 351c engine. I don’t know how much to start the offer at. but i don’t want to insult the guy. he’s a coworker of mine. I want to get the car for a good deal. the car sits outside in the weather. little bit of rust here and there. I need someone with knowledge about gran torinos.

the rust is no big deal UNLESS it’s major unibody or frame damage or if the body or frame show any type of damage
but not knowing the true shape of the vehicle I would start at 1000 (its worth that), and try to keep it below 3000
but in decent shape these cars go for between 3500 and 4500, in good shape, it’s what they buyer is willing to pay
when in dought ask him how much if he says give a price low ball him depending on the shape if its not too bad be like ill give you 3 grand if its rusty say like 300 dollars
Check the upper left corner of the cylinder head….it will have a "2" for two-barrel, "4" for 4 barrel, "4" with a dot is a ’71 closed chamber 4-barrel head (possible head swap?). An "M" is likely what you’ll find…….this means it’s a 351 Midland or 400….they are "cousins" to the Cleveland, but utilize a block with a 1" taller deck height and the trans bellhousing pattern will be the 429-460 bolt pattern instead of the Windsor or Cleveland in almost all cases. Some of the truck guys tell me there’s 400 with a Windsor bolt pattern but I’ve never seen one. The 429-460 is 9-1/8" across the top two bolts and the Windsor/Cleveland SB pattern is only 6-5/8" center to center.
Bottom line, if it has a two-barrel factory intake, it’s nothing to get excited about.
